AGRANA expands: acquisition of Slovenian food company Mercator-Emba

The food group AGRANA is bolstering its presence in Europe through the acquisition of Mercator-Emba d.o.o. (EMBA), a leading Slovenian food manufacturer for the food service sector, food processors and food retailers. EMBA excels due to its expertise in the product development and production of syrups and dessert toppings and ships its products mainly to Central, Southern and Eastern Europe.

With its head offices located around 30 km south-west of Ljubljana, EMBA employs around 100 personnel and generated revenues of approximately € 30 million in its 2024 financial year.

The deal is subject to approval from the competent competition and regulatory authorities.

“Acquiring Mercator-Emba gives AGRANA access to additional distribution markets and new customer segments in the growing food service sector. This fits perfectly into our portfolio as part of our NEXT LEVEL corporate strategy, in which profitable growth in the business unit Food & Beverage Solutions is a core element,” stresses AGRANA CEO Stephan Büttner.

AGRANA operates in its business unit Food & Beverage Solutions 37 production sites worldwide, of which 20 are located in Europe. These sites manufacture tailor-made formulations and customer-oriented solutions for dairies, the food service, ice cream, bakery products and beverage industries.
