Chung Mong-gyu, president of the Korea Football Association (KFA), said Friday he would step down after the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, after leading Korean football for 13 years. Chung said in a statement he would resign following the tournament, which kicks off next month, adding that supporting the national team would be his final responsibility in office. "I intend to step down as president of the KFA after this World Cup," Chung said. "I will do my utmost to support the national team so that it can achieve results in the tournament." The KFA said Chung's decision came despite his reelection to a fourth term in February last year with 85.6 percent of the vote and was aimed at encouraging strong public support for the national team during the World Cup.
