The iShares Russell 1000 ETF (IWB) was launched on May 15, 2000, and is a passively managed exchange traded fund designed to offer broad exposure to the Large Cap Blend segment of the US equity market.The fund is sponsored by Blackrock. It has amassed assets over $48.94 billion, making it one of the largest ETFs attempting to match the Large Cap Blend segment of the US equity market.Why Large Cap BlendCompanies that fall in the large cap category tend to have a market capitalization above $10 billion. They tend to be stable companies with predictable cash flows and are usually less volatile than mid and small cap companies.Blend ETFs are aptly named, since they tend to hold a mix of growth and value stocks, as well as show characteristics of both kinds of equities. The Russell 1000 Index measures the performance of the large-capitalization sector of the U.S. equity market. The Index is a float-adjusted capitalization-weighted index of equity securities issued by the approximately 1,000 largest issuers in the Russell 3000 Index.The ETF has added about 10.8% so far this year and it's up approximately 28.49% in the last one year (as of 06/01/2026). In the past 52-week period, it has traded between $325.35 and $412.91.The ETF has a beta of 1.00 and standard deviation of 14.68% for the trailing three-year period, making it a medium risk choice in the space. With about 1011 holdings, it effectively diversifies company-specific risk.AlternativesiShares Russell 1000 ETF carries a Zacks ETF Rank of 3 (Hold), which is based on expected asset class return, expense ratio, and momentum, among other factors. Thus, IWB is a sufficient option for those seeking exposure to the Style Box - Large Cap Blend area of the market. Investors might also want to consider some other ETF options in the space.The iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV) and the Vanguard 500 Index Fund ETF Shares (VOO) track a similar index. While iShares Core S&P 500 ETF has $843.42 billion in assets, Vanguard 500 Index Fund ETF Shares has $978.08 billion.
