The Invesco S&P 500 Pure Value ETF (RPV) was launched on 03/01/2006, and is a smart beta exchange traded fund designed to offer broad exposure to the Style Box - Large Cap Value category of the market. What Are Smart Beta ETFs?The ETF industry has long been dominated by products based on market cap weighted indexes, a strategy created to reflect the market or a particular market segment.Market cap weighted indexes offer a low-cost, convenient, and transparent way of replicating market returns, and are a good option for investors who believe in market efficiency. However, some investors believe in the possibility of beating the market through exceptional stock selection, and choose a different type of fund that tracks non-cap weighted strategies: smart beta. These indexes attempt to select stocks that have better chances of risk-return performance, based on certain fundamental characteristics or a combination of such characteristics. This area offers many different investment choices, such as simplest equal-weighting, fundamental weighting and volatility/momentum based weighting methodologies; however, not all of these strategies can deliver superior results.Fund Sponsor & IndexThe fund is managed by Invesco, and has been able to amass over $1.82 billion, which makes it one of the average sized ETFs in the Style Box - Large Cap Value. This particular fund, before fees and expenses, seeks to match the performance of the S&P 500 Pure Value Index. The S&P 500 Pure Value Index measures the performance of securities that exhibit strong value characteristics in the S&P 500 Index.Cost & Other ExpensesFor ETF investors, expense ratios are an important factor when considering a fund's return; in the long-term, cheaper funds actually have the ability to outperform their more expensive cousins if all other things remain the same.Annual operating expenses for this ETF are 0.35%, making it on par with most peer products in the space. It's 12-month trailing dividend yield comes in at 2.32%.Sector Exposure and Top HoldingsEven though ETFs offer diversified exposure which minimizes single stock risk, it is still important to look into a fund's holdings before investing. Luckily, most ETFs are very transparent products that disclose their holdings on a daily basis. This ETF has heaviest allocation in the Financials sector - about 19.8% of the portfolio. Healthcare and Consumer Staples round out the top three.Taking into account individual holdings, Bunge Global Sa (BG) accounts for about 2.68% of the fund's total assets, followed by Dow Inc (DOW) and Archer-daniels-midland Co (ADM).The top 10 holdings account for about 20.29% of total assets under management.Performance and RiskYear-to-date, the Invesco S&P 500 Pure Value ETF has added about 8.37% so far, and was up about 23.69% over the last 12 months (as of 05/13/2026). The fund has a beta of 0.83 and standard deviation of 15.35% for the trailing three-year period, which makes RPV a medium risk choice in this particular space. With about 127 holdings, it effectively diversifies company-specific risk .AlternativesInvesco S&P 500 Pure Value ETF is a reasonable option for investors seeking to outperform the Style Box - Large Cap Value segment of the market. However, there are other ETFs in the space which investors could consider.Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD) tracks Dow Jones U.S. Dividend 100 Index and the Vanguard Value Index Fund ETF Shares (VTV) tracks CRSP U.S. Large Cap Value Index.
