Samsung, union wage talks to resume at 10 a.m. Wednesday as strike threat looms
Samsung Electronics and its largest labor union will resume government-led wage negotiations at 10 a.m. Wednesday after marathon talks failed to narrow differences over performance-based bonuses tied to the company’s booming AI chip business. The National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) said the second round of post-mediation talks was adjourned at 12:30 a.m. after labor and management remained deadlocked on key compensation issues. Samsung management and union representatives had resumed negotiations at 10 a.m. Tuesday following an earlier round of talks the previous day, extending discussions past midnight in an effort to avert a prolonged strike threatened for later this week. The two sides remained sharply divided over whether to remove the current bonus cap set at 50 percent of annual salary, how to distribute bonus resources and whether related agreements should be institutionalized.
